Haliburton Scout Reserve (HSR) is Scouts Canada’s largest semi-wilderness camp. Our 5000 acre property is in the heart of the Canadian Shield, about 30 min from the village of Haliburton, Ontario. Operated by the Greater Toronto Council, HSR has been offering great, safe, outdoor adventures since 1947.
HSR’s forest features numerous lakes, streams and creeks that feed the watershed with several locations designated as environmentally protected. It is the home to numerous species of insects, fish, birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians as well as native trees and plants some of which are on Ontario’s rare species list. Our 23 main campsites are located around Lake Kennabi and are only accessible by boat. We also have outpost campsites on our other lakes which are perfect destinations for practicing overnight or longer hiking expeditions.
In addition to our climbing wall, low ropes course, archery range and a rifle range, we make the most of our location with numerous water-based activities. Lake Kennabi is perfect for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, sailing and all our other water activities. We have extensive hiking trails through the camp, as well as a natural rock face for rappelling.
In short, we offer a unique summer camping environment for Scouts, Venturer Scouts and Rover Scouts who want to learn practice and use their outdoor adventure skills.
